<p>This year we distilled our library orientation to 10 short tips in order to allow more time for a <a href="http://jeffloo.com/2011/bingo2011.pdf" target="_blank">human bingo</a> icebreaker game and more  time for a discussion of personal success in graduate life. <p>We held a “library quiz” to encourage students to read the library guide.  This is an online quiz with multiple choice questions about library use &#8211; and all answers may be found in the library guide.  All completed quiz entries will be entered into a lottery for a student to win one of two $25 gift certificates to the Cal student store.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The instructional librarian from the Engineering Library and I taught a library orientation class for high school students participating in the Summer High-School Apprenticeship Research Program (SHARP) at UC Berkeley.</p>
<p>In one exercise, students visited  four different stations &#8211; each station displaying  examples of a different type of scientific literature.  The students reviewed the literature and responded to worksheet questions about how they would use those resources. We followed-up with a group discussion.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s the activity worksheet used for this exercise along with the discussion plan.</p>
